Beyond the Summit: The Matterhorn in Extended Reality

On the occasion of the National Assembly of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), an experiential and exhibition context called “CAI Village” was developed at the Ducal Gardens in Modena.
The initiative combined geographic 3D modeling with extended reality on head-mounted displays.
Visitors were able to explore the Matterhorn and relive the authentic traverse undertaken by instructors from the Modena CAI section, who ascended from the Italian side and descended from the Swiss side.
The digitized 3D model offered an accurate perception of the stairs and slopes, impossible to achieve with traditional media.
The climbers’ route was not a simple line, but a narrative axis; users activated multimedia memories directly at the geographic points where they were recorded.
This technology represents a fundamental evolution for local museums, often limited by limited physical spaces and static exhibits.
Dedicated museums can archive and render historical or contemporary great climbs infinite, and these feats become permanent interactive itineraries that visitors can virtually walk.
High-altitude mountains are by their very nature elitist, accessible only to physically fit and expert mountaineers: in these cases, extended reality breaks down these barriers and allows children, the elderly, and those with mobility disabilities to “experience” the summit. -

HDT Heritage

Viewer for managing 3D digital twins of historical monumental heritage on HMD Devices in Extended Reality.

One of our apps for the historical-architectural-cultural sector. It allows users to load detailed reconstructions of a digital twin of existing cultural monumental heritage — whether damaged or completely destroyed over time — with advanced realism, anchoring it in real physical space. It is possible to view in 1:1 scale the evolutionary process of monuments that no longer exist today, directly appreciating a vision of the past.
Through a simple interactive menu operated entirely by hand gestures, displayed elements can be manipulated for building positioning, miniature scaling, and visual and/or audio information.
We have specific expertise in the reconstruction of historic sites, having collaborated for more than thirty years with the Italian Institute of Castles, the most important organisation in Italy for the study and research of fortifications. Thanks to our joint work, it is possible to represent evolutionary phases, virtually reproducing structures with a scientifically valid approach based on correctly collected and interpreted historical, archaeological and architectural data.
The “Multiplayer” feature is available. Screenshots and/or audio-video files can be recorded. Content can be streamed remotely via video conferencing. The CAST function via Mirroring is also available.

HDT Miniature

Viewer for managing 3D digital twins of historic towns and art cities in miniature on HMD Devices in Extended Reality.

Our app for the cultural, tourist and educational sector. It allows users to load detailed reconstructions of the digital twin of our architectural cultural heritage, and display it in miniaturised form in standard or advanced-realism mode, anchored in real physical space.
Through a simple interactive menu operated entirely by hand gestures, displayed elements can be manipulated for positioning, scale, visual and audio info, and/or ISL video, and a “Timeline” selector.
Device wearers will enjoy an absolutely unique and emotional perspective: experiencing the feeling of walking through a virtual city is a one-of-a-kind experience that stays with you. The use of extended reality, unlike virtual reality, allows the visitor to move freely in the dedicated space, focusing on the virtual model without losing orientation with respect to the surrounding reality.
With the “Timeline” selector, reconstructions of sites can be shown according to historical period, reliving architectural evolution from antiquity to the present day — a true “journey through time”. The “Multiplayer” feature is available. Screenshots and/or audio-video files can be recorded. Content can be streamed remotely. The CAST function via Mirroring is also available.

HDT Home

Viewer for managing 3D digital twins in digital Home Staging on HMD Devices in Extended Reality (XR).

One of our apps for architectural use. It allows users to load digital twins of individual architectural furniture items and display them in standard or advanced-realism mode. Through a simple interactive menu operated entirely by hand gestures, the 3D element can be inserted into real physical space with interaction for position and visual and/or audio information.
The full architectural interior project + furnishings can be overlaid directly onto an existing empty structure to verify proportions and real physical spaces. Screenshots and/or audio-video files can be recorded. Content can be streamed remotely via video conferencing. The CAST function via Mirroring is also available.

HDT Room

Viewer for managing 3D digital twins in interior furnishing on HMD Devices in Extended Reality (XR).

One of our apps for architectural use. It allows users to load digital twins of interior construction projects and architectural furnishings, displaying them in standard or advanced-realism mode. Through a simple interactive menu operated entirely by hand gestures, the architectural project model can be inserted and positioned in real physical space.
Various use cases:
- Interior architectural project + furnishings overlaid directly onto an existing empty structure to verify proportions and real physical spaces
- Interior architectural project + furnishings in Virtual Reality (VR) with “See Through Circle” in real external space

- Interior architectural or industrial project overlaid directly onto existing empty structure for plant/systems verification
- Industrial interior architectural project in Virtual Reality (VR) with “See Through Circle” and teleportation for extended physical spaces
Screenshots and/or audio-video files can be recorded. Content can be streamed remotely via video conferencing. The CAST function via Mirroring is also available.

HDT Show

Viewer for managing 3D digital twins for events and dynamic presentations on HMD Devices in Extended Reality.

HDT-SHOW is an easy-to-use application for Meta Quest 3 headsets for displaying 3D models during events or exhibitions. By virtually positioning flash icons, it is possible to display dynamic images alongside real-scale videos of people describing the context, as well as manipulating related 3D objects.
By spacing them appropriately, multiple representations can be displayed within the same environment.

HDT Build

Viewer for managing 3D digital twins of Real Estate projects on HMD Devices in Extended Reality (XR).

HDT-BUILD is an easy-to-use application for Meta Quest 3 headsets for displaying 3D models of buildings in extended reality. It allows users to load digital twins of architectural exterior projects and display them in standard or advanced-realism mode, anchoring them in real physical space. Through a simple interactive menu operated entirely by hand gestures, displayed elements can be manipulated for building positioning, scaling to miniature size, and visual and audio information display.

This is useful for multi-user presentations with a “Master” who interacts with the loaded model and other “Slave” participants viewing the model from multiple angles.
It is possible to take screenshots and/or record video files of the content displayed inside the visor. Content can be streamed remotely to other devices via video conferencing. The CASTING function via Mirroring is also available, allowing audio/video content to be transmitted to devices such as Smart TVs, tablets and smartphones.

Privacy: HDT-BUILD does not use third-party analytics or advertising frameworks, does not record or distribute user information. 3D models often contain confidential data that must not leave the organisation’s network; the App does not save files anywhere other than the user’s own cloud and works 100% offline in single-user mode.
